Styx is the first musical act to ever have four consecutive triple platinum albums, and remain one of the most popular musical acts in history. The group originally formed in the Chicago, Illinois, area in 1961 as "The Tradewinds". This earliest line-up of the group included vocalist, pianist, keyboardist, and accordion player Dennis DeYoung, and a rhythm section comprising brothers Chuck and John Panozzo on bass and drums, respectively. Changing their name briefly to "TW4", the band added guitarists/vocalists James "J.Y." Young and John Curulewski. The band members decided to choose a new name when they signed to Wooden Nickel Records; several suggestions were made and, says DeYoung, Styx was chosen because it was "the only one that none of us hated." Guitarist Tommy Shaw joined the group in 1975 following the departure of Curelewski.

Haven’t We Been Here Before Lyrics

Styx

Written by tommy shaw
Lead vocals by tommy shaw
Havent we been here before
Footsteps lead down to the note on the door
That says I cant stay here anymore
And havent we felt this same way
Sure in our hearts, but afraid just the same
To say I cant stay one minute more
You might think that its hopeless
Beyond our control
But thats not necessarily so
Cant you see theres a chance
For the daring young soul
Whos finally learned to say no
No, I wont be misused
Ignored or refused
And I wont just give up and let go
So tonight hold me close to you
And dont give up whats important to you
And as time rolls on
Nothing can stand in our way
And I believe if we learn from the past
Wed find keys to unlock every door
Dark would turn into light
Wed be strong
Wed be right
So tonight hold me close to you
And dont give up whats important to you
And as time rolls on
Nothing will stand in our way
And I believe if we learn from the past
Wed say havent we been here before
Oh, and I believe if we open our hearts
Wed find keys to unlock every door
Hearts could change overnight
Wed be strong...wed be right
So stay with me now
The future is ours
And well be the ones who go on
